“The highest taxes are collected at Trabzon and Antalie. The city of Antalie collected taxes from all the ships sailing along the Islamic countries and from every merchandise brought from the coasts of Bilad al-Sham. Booty from barges, battle ships or boats was also taxed. Taxes collected were calculated according to the value of the merchandise carried, ships and Muslim slaves. On these was added the customs tax levied by the empire…”
